How To Fix Windows Update Error 0x80070005 In Windows 10

If you are plagued with Error 0x80070005 and are unable to install updates from Windows Update, follow this guide to solve the issue on your Windows 10 machine.

Error 0x80070005 is primarily an error that leads to the failed installation of updates. If you are facing issues because of this, then don’t worry, the solution is a piece of cake – just like our fix for that pesky .NET Framework 3.5 error.

To start with, download the SubInACL Tool [Microsoft] and install it.

Once the above application is installed on your Windows, go to your desktop. We will now make an executable .bat file, the same way we make a registry file. Right-click on your desktop, New and Text Document.

In the text document, copy paste the following:

@echo off
setlocal
echo.
echo Determine whether we are on an 32 or 64 bit machine
echo.
if "%PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%"=="x86" if "%PROCESSOR_ARCHITEW6432%"=="" goto x86
set ProgramFilesPath=%ProgramFiles(x86)%
goto startResetting
:x86
set ProgramFilesPath=%ProgramFiles%
:startResetting
echo.
if exist "%ProgramFilesPath%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\subinacl.exe" goto filesExist
echo ***ERROR*** - Could not find file %ProgramFilesPath%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\subinacl.exe. Double-check that SubInAcl is correctly installed and re-run this script.
 goto END
:filesExist
pushd "%ProgramFilesPath%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
subinacl.exe /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl.exe /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl.exe /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl.exe /subdirectories %windir% /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
echo FINISHED.
echo.
echo Press any key to exit . . .
pause >NUL
popd
:END
endlocal

Once you have done the above. Navigate to File, Save As.

I have gone through this process but thw Windows 10 upograde will not install and the error message remains the same. When I run the reset.cmd file as administrator it opens in System 32/cmd.exe although my system is 64 bit. I don’t know if that is significant.

When the file runs, at the end of the process there is a red background with ‘Done (numbers), notified (Numbers), failed (Numbers), syntax errors.

I hope you might be able to assist.

I follow your instruction, but still finding the same error. at the end it shows a message that ” An error occurred. Not all of the feature were successfully changed”. What to do now?

Insider build 16176 64bit. Fast track. Says 16179 is available and starts the update with a KB and so on then gets to 16179 itself and pretty quickly stops with the error 80070005. I followed the instructs and ran your cmd file which took ages. At then end a lot of my default app had been changed. I rebooted and tried to update but it failed the same way. You promise to help further, so please advise.

I have tried the fix posted above but then had the same results the next time I tried to update. Here’s the entire msg.
